You pick a tree, we plant one that’s The Home Depot’s environmentally responsible approach to Christmas trees. When you buy a tree from your local The Home Depot store, you’re doing your part to manage woodlots for the future. That’s because for every tree harvested from our suppliers’ tree farms this November and December, at least one new tree will be planted the following spring.

Huh? That’s not green, that’s how farming works. If you harvest one unit of something you better plant at least one unit of that something to harvest later. Unless you plan on going out of business. & that’s how most Christmas trees are grown, in tree farms. When you take into account that some of the trees will likely die before being harvested, they would have to be planting at a 2 to 1 ratio before I would even remotely be impressed.

Not yet, Mr. Obama. I was just finally listening to his acceptance speech. For someone who claims to have studied history he seems to have forgotten the Depression. Last I checked, a century is 100 years. My history is a bit rusty, but I’m pretty sure the Depression was after 1908. Perhaps he should have spent less time in History & Law and a bit more in a Math class or two. If he had said “The worst financial crisis of this century” I would have just said he was being optimistic, since there’s a lot of the century left. But he didn’t. He said “the worst financial crisis in a century.”

This crisis only just turned into an official recession. Unemployment rates are something like 1/5 of those during the Depression. Admittedly, there aren’t exactly signs of a turnaround, but it is not yet anywhere near the worst. Perhaps Phil Graham was right when he said we were a nation of whiners. Actually, forget the perhaps. We are a nation of whiners, for all sorts of reasons.

Or at least my voter number, so to speak. Mine was the 439th ballot cast at my polling place a bit before 11 am. Amazing what the presidential race does for turnout. At the same time last year I was #174. I was pleasantly surprised by the number of Libertarian candidates on the ballot. & that idiot, Nader, was a “declared write-in” this year.

Oh, almost forgot, if you voted, Starbucks & Ben & Jerry’s will give you free stuff.

Grrr. I came home from class last night to no internet. Went into the front room & looked @ the modem, I was about to reset it when I remembered that when I glanced at the side of the house when I got home, something was missing.

While clearing the lot next door (of way too may trees in my opinion) they took down a tree that was right against my fence on the property line. My cable ran through the branches & went down with it. (I am glad to see this particular tree go, it will make putting up a fence easier & stop attacking my roof). So I called & paged the demolition company. He was very apologetic & of course there wasn’t much he could do @ 10:30pm, but he did say if the Cable company charges me, he’ll pay it. I actually kind of felt bad for bothering him.

Then I called the cable company. They earliest they can be out is Wednesday morning. *sigh* I guess I get to try to be productive tonight. I watched a Netflix I’ve had too long last night.

This was my view out the bathroom window this morning…

I felt a bit like Arthur Dent.

It’s a bit surreal to see a house disassembled next to your own. Especially when you catch glimpses of other things that you cannot usually see through it. Very odd.

Not bad … only took them a bit over an hour.

Please excuse the errors. There seems to be a problem with access to /tmp on my server. Only mildly frustrating. At least it’s not the blog database. The site that Jeremy built for his VOIP joint venture is busted too.

I was just looking up my repair status online & my phone rang. ‘Twas a number I didn’t recognize, but local, so I decided to actually answer. It was the Knox Street Apple Store. Laptop’s done. Apparently they do actually do the repairs right in store. I didn’t realize that.

The odd thing is that the original repair was cancelled. The guy I talked to said there was another issue that he needed to fix to repair the video issue, something about a worn power cord or somesuch. So he created a new ticket for the whole thing to cover it all.

So, I know where I’m going after work.
