This thing is pretty cool. It's called the Volkswagen GX3. It's much like the T-Rex. The advantage of the GX3, if it gets built, is that it would be mass manufactured so it would likely be cheaper (the T-Rex starts @ $48,000 - the GX3 is likely to be less than $17,000), more reliable (VW's reliability is pretty good in general), more easily serviceable (any VW dealer) and probably more modable (running a standard VW 1.6L powerplant has its advantages).
Since it's classified as a motorcycle, you can run in the HOV lane. Since it's light it does 0-100 kph (0-62.5 mph) in 5.7 seconds with only 125 hp. Bolt up a small turbo & it could really be fun.
Plus the thing gets 46 mpg. That would make my 20 mile one each way commute to work a bit cheaper. Not to mention the trek out to school.
