According to The Tax Foundation today is Tax Freedom Day. It falls earlier in 2008 than it has in a few years. The basic idea is that “in 2008, Americans will work 74 days to afford their federal taxes and 39 more days to pay state and local taxes.” Of course some states are better than others. Most likely, here in Texas we are done a bit sooner than a state like New York. But that’s just a guess.
What reminded me of this was actually a political mailer from Pete Sessions. He’s a supporter of the FAST Act (Fair And Simple Tax Act). While it certainly isn’t perfect, it is definitely a start.
