It’s been 195 days since I used Wii Fit. Shame on me. The balance board forgot my name. ;D But for the good news, my Wii Fit age was 30. Yippee! :P

I seem to be wel balanced today. I just set a new record on Warrior Pose as well. Tree wasn’t as good, but then it never is. I did set records on the Palm Tree (by 8pts), Chair, Triangle, Down Dog (by 17pts) & Dance (from 36 to 51 - didn’t take much) though to make up for it. :p I also did enough time to unlock the last 2 Yoga poses & another Strength exercise. The Shoulder Stand wasn’t as hard as I thought it would be.

I think 36 minutes is enough for the night.

I heard about this on my way in to work this morning & found it interesting. The executive summary is that Perez Hilton was a panelist for the Miss USA pageant this year and asked Miss California the following:

Vermont recently became the 4th State to legalize same sex marriage, do you think every state should follow suit, why or why not?

To which she responded:

I think it’s great that Americans are able to choose one or the other, uhm, we live in a land that you can choose same sex marriage or opposite marriage and you know what, in my country, and in my family I think that I believe that a marriage should be between a man and a woman, no offense to anybody out there, but that’s how I was raised and that’s how I think that it should be between a man and a woman. Thank you.

To me that is an excellent response, especially for an off the cuff response from a pageant contestant. “Choice” has a bit of a negative connotation when it comes to gay causes, but in this case I think it is entirely appropriate. We can chose to head to any of the 4 States that will marry us & get married anytime we like. I am also impressed that she went on to be entirely honest about her beliefs even if they run somewhat contrary to what seems to be the current media current. And it seemed clear from the crowd reaction that more were on her side than Perez’s, though that could have been timing since the applause for Vermont was in the middle of his question and her applause was at a natural applause point for a contestant response.

The real issue I have with this little dustup is Mr. Hilton’s response (entitled “Everyone Is Entitled To Their Own Opinion, But?"). I think he needs to re-listen to her response. I think she actually said just about what he said a contestant should say, albeit in different words, but then she didn’t have time to craft a polished answer.

Smokin' Prius?

Enviromentality 1 feedback »

On my way to work this morning I saw a guy in a Prius with the windows down (there goes that slippery shape) lighting up a cigarette (do they even have ashtrays?). It just seemed incongruous to me. For a couple possible reasons.

 1. If he bought the Prius to save money on gas, he could probably save more money by quitting smoking.
 2. If he bought the Prius to save the environment, he could have a greater effect by quitting smoking. Between the “emissions” of him exhaling the cigarette smoke & the fact that tobacco is a very resource intensive crop, plus the wood consumption for the paper & the litter of the filters…

Addiction’s a bitch, ain’t it?

So, I decided to go for it and get the MacHeist 3 bundle. I had been wanting World of Goo since I played it over @ Ray’s. & iSale is a pretty good app, but I never wanted to pay $40 for it. PhoneView looked pretty handy too. So, I am probably getting my money’s worth just from the cheap apps. Kinemac has potential, but I’m not sure I’ll ever use it. It ends in 6 hours, so hurry if you want it. ;)

Grindr. (stupd web2.0 nams)

So, this has been all over the gay web (I actually can’t remember where I saw it first) and of course I downloaded as soon as I saw it.

Grindr is basically a location aware social networking app for gay, bi & curious men. Sort of. It is a bit like a really lightweight personals site. However, unlike most other gay oriented personals type things, nudity is strictly prohibited. Most likely because of Apple’s iPhone development agreement. Of course I have already seen a few profile pics already that are a bit borderline. I also saw a woman. Or at least I’m pretty sure it was, I didn’t really investigate. :)

You log in & specify a name. There is no password or lengthy registration or anything, it’s just tied to your iPhone (or iPod Touch) as far as I can tell.

Then you define your Profile & upload a picture from your photos on the iPhone. The Profile has a whopping 7 fields, one of which is a pretty short About box (the rest include your name, a headline, height, weight, age & ethnicity). For the searching or browsing side, you can define an age filter. That’s about it…

Then when you select a person from the main screen you can view their profile. From there you can Chat with them, mark them as a favorite or block them. The chat interface will look familiar to anyone that has used iChat. Or any other reasonable facsimile. There are a couple features that I didn’t know about until I looked at the official screen shots again. Within a chat you can send the person you are talking to a pic or give them a map of your location. That pretty much covers it.

Overall it’s an interesting platform. It has some downsides though. It’s terrible on battery life - the screen stays lit while it’s in use & it uses a lot of network access. Typing a chat message is often very laggy, I’m guessing because it is updating the main screen in the background. I’ve only had it crash once though, I think. Well, twice, something weird happened while dealing with the photo at one point. Another weird quirk seems to exist in the distance calculations. I have had several people show up as ~6600 miles away. That’s not as far as it sounds, since the planet is only a bit over 7900 miles around.

As for features, it needs a way to sort the people you have messages from to the top. They are at the top right when you start the app before the whole list loads, but then once it loads, they go down into the mix.

It will be interesting to see how the community grows. So far I ran into Mike & Tim (friends from Frisco) , but also have talked to a few new people. I’ve been talking to one guy about some photography & another about the peculiarities of the application itself.

Netflix 4 for $16.99

Wow … I forgot how good of a deal I was getting. I got an email from Netflix today that they were increasing the charge for the Blu-ray plan for most Netflix plans. It will vary by plan, based on how many you can have out at a time, in my case from $1 to $5. Which seemed a lot. And considering how little I use my Netflix account, it probably is a lot. But then I went & looked at their current plans. The 4 at a time plan is currently $23.99 per month for DVDs. That’s $2 more than my plan with the Blu-ray addon. Ouch. To get cheaper than my plan I’d have to go to a 3 at a time, which would still cost more than I currently pay once you add the Blu-ray. Or I could go to 2 at a time & get the Blu-ray included for what I pay now. Perhaps I’ll stay where I am & just start watching more movies. :)
